The assignment was to redesign the main menu layout for this local pub.
My first step was to meet with my boss to discuss what needed to be changed. Next, I took some time to research the brand via their social media and online presence. After that, I reviewed the original files they had sent me and identified where the design problems were and where the settings were poor. Lastly, I gathered all the information, combed through the file, and fixed the underlying issues before implementing the requested changes to the content and layout.
I started by reviewing all the preset paragraph styles in the InDesign file and fixing any odd settings or creating new ones as needed. I then made all the content changes to help determine the new layout. Once all the content was correct, I spent time determining where each section would fit best relative to the others. Once that was finished, I made the visual design choices such as backgrounds, borders, type colour, and spacing.
The assignment for this project was to transfer the information from the old drink menu layout to a new, more usable one.
My first step was to work with my boss to decide what wasn't working about the original design and find a way to meet his needs. The second step was to effectively transfer all the content to the new format. After that, I made all the requested content changes. Then, I worked to align the new content with the brand standards and the new layout. Lastly, I added decorative and background elements to enhance visual interest and separate content.
I started by meeting with my boss to discuss what wasn't working about the original menu. He said the original trifold design was neither durable nor cost-effective for the business, and that he wanted a flat design. Then I worked with him to find dimensions he liked the look of, and that also fit the content. After that, I transferred all the original content into the new document, rearranged the sections and adjusted the paragraph styles. I then made all the content changes my boss had asked for, which led me to rearrange the layout further. Lastly, I reviewed the original drinks menu, the new main menu, and the business's online presence to understand and incorporate elements of their brand standards and look.
